Self-Introduction Letter

Dear Professor Blackstone,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing this email to formally introduce myself to you, as I believe we do not have adequate time to do so in class. My name is Nor Farhan. I graduated from Singapore Polytechnic in 2022 with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in precision. After graduation, I served my National Service with Singapore Police Force as a Protective Security Trooper, where I was responsible for conducting patrols at security-sensitive locations, major events, and high-risk areas across Singapore.

Since young, I have been captivated by the world of aviation, drawn to the sight and sound of aircraft soaring through the sky from the windows of my childhood home. This early fascination ignited a lifelong curiosity about the intricate workings of these marvels of engineering. In 2017, I began my career journey as an Aircraft Technician intern, where I gained hands-on experience in aviation maintenance. Later, in 2022, I expanded my technical skills by interning as an Assembler Technician at a semiconductor company, delving into the intricate world of electronics and assembly. While my passion for aviation remains strong, I chose to pursue a Degree in Mechanical Engineering to gain a broader understanding of the principles of engineering. My goal is to expand my knowledge and skills in a way that will allow me to make a meaningful contribution to the fast-paced and ever-evolving industry.

One of my strengths in communication is active listening. When engaged in conversation, I tend to pay attention to verbal and non-verbal cues, such as body language, facial expressions, and tone, among others. I believe that by observing these cues with my emotional intelligence, I can understand what someone is trying to convey, which allows me to communicate effectively. I believe what sets me apart is that I can resolve conflicts by empathizing with others and understanding their perspective. However, I have recognized a weakness in my communication skills, which is that I tend to ramble, providing excessive or unnecessary details that can dilute the clarity of my message and create confusion.

Looking ahead, I aim to work on my weakness by enhancing the clarity and effectiveness of my communication, thereby ensuring that I convey information efficiently and maintain the listener’s engagement and understanding. Additionally, I aspire to improve the comprehensiveness of criticism and feedback that I share with others and to build confidence in public speaking to present my ideas clearly and confidently.

All in all, I am eager to begin this academic journey with you and my classmates. Your expertise will significantly enhance my growth, and I look forward to learning valuable lessons and skills in your Critical Thinking and Communication class.

Yours sincerely,

Nor Farhan
